10:00 – 11:00 am
(Video Link Below)
This is a class for those who are interested in learning more about painting on vellum. Denise will discuss what vellum is and how it is made, what supplies are needed for painting on vellum, how to store vellum, and she will give a short demonstration of her technique for painting on vellum.
Denise Walser-Kolar began her journey into botanical art in 2003, after receiving a botanical art class from her parents as a birthday gift. She has a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration from the College of Visual Arts in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and specializes in painting botanical and nature art on vellum (and she loves teaching other artists how to paint on vellum). She is currently working on a series of paintings inspired by the work of Sixteenth-Century Illuminator, Joris Hoefnagel. Awards include the ASBA Diane Bouchier Artist Award for Excellence in Botanical Art
and a Silver-Gilt medal from the Royal Horticultural Society. Her work is held in the permanent collection of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation..
